The brain is a complex and chaotic organism but behind the random behaviour there seems to be some hidden order. Our neurons shift suddenly and simultaneously from one activity pattern to another in response to the smallest of inputs. Chaos may be the very property that lets the brain – or, in this case, the artist - respond flexibly to the outside world and generate fresh ideas.
