Einstein’s Blackboard
Acrylic paint, collage
84.1 x 59.4cm
This image is based on imaging of the white matter in the brain’s corpus callosum (a thick band of nerve fibres that connects the brain’s left and right hemispheres). Here, the white matter is interlaced with equations from ‘Einstein’s blackboard’ preserved from his Oxford lectures. Research has shown that the increased density of Einstein’s own corpus callosum might provide a clue to his genius. In contrast, Alzheimer's disease has been shown to be associated with shrinkage of the corpus callosum.
