The mind-body debate goes back to Descartes whose dualist stance saw mind and body as distinct entities. Today, we now know that unconsciously the brain decides to, for example, move a finger before the conscious mental act to do so. In other words, our brain gets there before our conscious mind does, and it isn’t wholly an act of free will. Recent studies have shown a man crossing a precarious bridge and deciding that he’s madly in love with the attractive woman at the other end. The implication is that he confuses anxiety for love, and that the basis for feeling is biological not mental.
