The term “continuous- partial attention,” has been coined to denote a mental blurriness induced by the constant distractions of digital and social media. As we’re bombarded with soundbites in the form of tweets and SMS messages, some experts wonder whether our attention spans are shrinking. In her book Mindchange, neuroscientist Baroness Susan Greenfield even feels our very identity and relationships could be under threat: social networking will displace the “true self” with “an exaggerated, ideal self”.
