Dichotomania is the name given to the popular and oversimplistic tendency to split the brain into two distinct hemispheres, and to talk about left and right thinking. Experts now know that such divisions are not remotely clear-cut. On a literal level, split brain is a real medical condition in which the corpus callosum connecting the two halves of the brain is severed. Unconnected, the co-ordination and communication capacity of the brain is severely impaired.
