Loosely based on a MRI scan showing the main cerebral arteries, this image – rather like a tribal mask – shows how the arteries are symmetrically paired, as are the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Similarly, the thalamus (that processes and sends on sensory information to areas of the brain devoted to more complex thinking), is sometimes described as “two hen eggs sitting side by side.”
