Mixed media and neon paint on canvas

115 x 130cm

This painting is so called as it refers to the highest resolution imaging of the human brain connectome (networks) in which there are some 4000 incoming connections to the one large (red) brain cell. The ‘densest’ connections are thought to underlie ‘learned’ behaviours (as opposed to hardwired/genetic ones). The painting surface conceals a hidden butterfly – a nod to the Monarch whose central nervous system is hardwired from birth to ‘know’ the migration route to Mexico.
