Einstein’s Blackboard
Mixed media and collage on wood
59 x 84cm
This work depicts the mind as a dynamic ever-expanding universe. In our brains there is a thick band of white matter connecting the two hemispheres. Here, the white matter is interlaced with expanding-universe equations from ‘Einstein’s blackboard’ preserved from his Oxford lectures. Research has shown that the increased density of Einstein’s own corpus callosum might provide a clue to his genius. In contrast, Alzheimer's disease has been shown to be associated with shrinkage of the corpus callosum.
